A shared access account enables multiple users to access the same resources.
If you are authorized to use shared access you can use credentials to access various resources. A credential consists of an account ID and password. Depending on how the credential was created in the credential vault, multiple users might access the credentials. If checkout has been enabled, only one user can access the credential at any given time.
